Dust off the Dreams
Starting White Tail Running has been a deeply personal and transformative journey for both Patrick and I and someone even commented, “What took you so long?” Running has always played a significant role in our lives, not just as a form of exercise but as a way to connect with each other, clear our minds, and achieve personal goals. Over the years, we’ve seen how running has empowered us and shaped our sense of community from Spartanburg Striders, Dorman Distance and Boyle County High School, Clemson and Furman Programs, and into adulthood with the Rockers Run Club. We wanted to create something that could offer that same experience to others and involved personal goals but family and community. That’s how White Tail Running was born—out of a desire to share our passion for running and help others discover their potential, whether they’re seasoned runners or just starting their journey.
We chose the name “White Tail Running” because of its connection to nature and the graceful, determined energy of the white-tailed deer. For us, it symbolizes freedom, resilience, and the beauty of movement, which are the very qualities we hope to inspire in our running community. Beyond just coaching, we envision White Tail Running as a space where people of all backgrounds can come together, set goals, and feel supported in their progress. We’re especially excited to bring families into the fold with initiatives like the White Tail Running Fawns for kids, and community events like our 5K launch party to celebrate milestones together.
Our two children, Joseph (age 9) and Kara Faye (age 7), have also been a big inspiration behind this journey. As parents, we want to set a strong example for them by showing the importance of staying active, setting goals, and building a sense of community. Through White Tail Running, we hope to instill in them—and in other children—the values of perseverance, healthy living, and finding joy in movement. Watching them participate in activities like the White Tail Running Fawns gives us so much pride and motivates us to continue creating a space where families can grow and thrive together.
Starting this business has also allowed us to give back to the Spartanburg community that has supported us throughout our lives. By partnering with local charities and hosting events that benefit meaningful causes, we’re able to merge our love for running with a commitment to making a positive impact in our area. Whether it’s helping a parent find the confidence to complete their first 5K or inspiring a child to discover a love for running as they watch mom or dad reach their goals, White Tail Running is about more than just putting one foot in front of the other. It’s about building a supportive, inclusive community that thrives on movement, connection, and growth.
